Research and Teaching

An academic practice shaped by painting, cultural memory and the exchange of ideas in the classroom and studio.

Where images become ideas

Myth and Fantasy in Modern Indian Painting

Dr. Reena Singh's research considers how artists use visual language to approach narrative, imagination and cultural tradition. It places the act of painting beside critical inquiry: not only what an image depicts, but what it remembers, transforms and communicates.

  • Why does an artist return to a particular story?
  • How can an imagined form express an idea?
  • What changes when a familiar subject enters a new visual setting?

These questions provide a continuing context for her academic work and engagement with contemporary Indian painting.

Teaching through looking, making and conversation

As a Post Graduate Teacher at Happy Model School, Varanasi, Dr. Singh guided students through explanation, demonstration and sustained studio practice.

Her approach treats art education as a gradual development of each student's own way of seeing—building confidence through questions, material exploration and thoughtful critique.
